half-pint cottage

Description:

'Half-pint Cottage' is a romantic Cotswold village hideaway for two with modern facilities and a period feel. It has exposed Cotswold stone walls, low and exposed beams, and lovely views. There is a private garden, BBQ and patio for your use. You will be able to enjoy country walks in all directions and, with a wonderful 17th C inn on the doorstep serving excellent food, you can experience the joy of the English pub culture. One dog is welcome by request.

Please note:

Half-pint is a quirky cottage with steep and winding stairs, its bathroom on the ground floor, and a compact kitchen/diner. It may not be suitable for visitors with mobility difficulties or for those who would prefer faceless, and shiny hotel-type accommodation.

The cottage was built before the days of damp proofing and triple glazing when the residents of the time feared not sharing their space with the odd spider or spot of dust. Allthough extensively renovated and modernised, it retains much of the original character, but this means it is difficult to maintain it as if it were a 5* hotel. However, it is serviced by a dedicated team of housekeepers who do an excellent job despite the difficulties. So please don't be upset if you come across the odd spider or spot of dust or damp. This latter nuisance is minimised by proper ventilation and we ask you to help with this.

Facilities:

It is simpler to list what Half-pint Cottage does not have. Some guests may have preferred to have the following:

  • Dishwasher (though there is a small tabletop unit)

  • Dedicated parking, though there is plenty of on-street parking within 50m.

  • Ummm, sorry , can't really think of anything else....Oh, yes, there is no swimming pool.

Location:

The cottage is situated in the village of Selsley, with its pretty Cotswold houses, a working farm, seventeenth century inn and Selsley Common, a vast open space with far ranging views. Selsley Parish Church is famous for its beautiful "Pre-Raphaelite" stained glass windows. Selsley is situated on the "Cotswold Way" walking route. The adjacent town of Stroud is renowned for its Saturday Farmers' Market, canal side walks, and the beauty of its "five valleys". Many stately homes, National Trust gardens, and towns such as Bath, Cheltenham , Tetbury and Gloucester are within an easy drive.

Getting there:

Train: Stroud is situated on a mainline train route, and is within easy reach of Bristol and London. More information on rail travel at Trainline

The cottage can then be reached by local bus (10min ride) or taxi.

Road: By car, the M5 motorway is within a short drive. No parking at cottage but plentiful village parking alongside the Bell Inn. There is a large supermarket within an easy, if hilly, walk from the cottage.
